FEDPOFFA FIBSU, General Secretary Condemns Students Harassment and Extortion by SARS
My attention has been drawn on several occasions to the continuous harassment of students by men of FSARS attached to offa-erinle axis.
This had been an injustice on Students’ populace which has been going on for years and has been left unattended to and or not giving the required attention by the Institution S.U.G executives.
“Police have no right to check people’s phones on the roads, streets or in their cars. People have a right to self dignity, which is a fundamental human right. Prying into people’s privacy — part of which is checking their phones and laptops — is tantamount to violating their rights to self dignity. The police frown seriously on that.” ACP Jimoh Moshood (Force Public Relations Officer, Abuja 2018)
“It’s unethical to seize and start searching anybody’s mobile phone on the road. The practice of searching the phone of an individual on the road for evidence of internet fraud amounts to conducting a roadside investigation.” Kayode Egbetokun (Kwara State Commissioner of Police, 2019).
According to the above statement credited to Force P.R.O and Kwara State Commissioner of Police respectively, It shows that the act is illegal and violates the Nation’s Constitution on Human rights and privacy.
I hereby implore the Victims not to results to violence or any form of intimidation that will breach the peace of the institution environment. The most concerned indigenous states association on campus viz (Oyo, Osun, Ogun e.t.c.) with the support of the institution management will take this upon itself and seek lasting solutions to the FSARSmenace as provided by the law and the Constitution of this Nation as there will be an immediate steps in seeking drastic solution. Let’s be patience as we embark on the journey to end #Impunity
